A clinical observation has been made on 30 children with Reye´s syndrome who were admitted to pediatric department of Chungnam National University Hospital during 7 year period from January 1979 to December 1985.
The following results were obtained ;
1. The most of cases (79.6%) were under the 2 rears of age.
2. The sex ratio of male to female was 1.1 : 1.
3. The annual incidence was similar.
4. The peak seasonal incidence was noted in Spring.
5. The prodromal illness was present in 76.95 of cases and the most common antecedent illness was URI(56.7%), followed by gastroenteritis, viral exanthem and pneumonia.
6. The clinical manifestations were disturbed consciousnsness(83.3%), vomiting(66.7%), fever(56.7%). and hepatomegaly(50%), fellowed by dyspnea, diarrhea, cyanosis, arthralgia, rash and developmental retardation.
7. The elevated serum GOT, GPT, PT, PTT, LDH, ammonia and increased ICP were noted, and hypoglycemia was seen in 46.77.
8. The major factors of prognosis were related to age, stage on admission, and serum LDH.
9. The average inortality was 20%.
